Financial Systems Division

NOAA includes a reference to the invoice number with every electronic payment from CBS. We include this information in the addendum record associated with the funds deposited in your bank account.

When we provide the information to Treasury, the addendum record looks like this:

RMR*IV*your invoice number\

Your financial institution should be able to make this information available to you. The information after the second asterisk is your invoice number. You should recognize it.

If we include interest because your payment was late, we will include additional information:

RMR*IV*your invoice number\REF*RB** >explanation of interest penalty charges paid to you\

The information following the "REF*RB**", but before the second backslash is the explanation of any interest paid to you.

An example of a addendum record containing a late penalty payment explanation is as follows:

RMR*IV*INV0123456\REF*RB**INT OF .04 AT 6.5% FOR 15 DAYS\

You will usually receive any interest as a separate deposit to your account.

You can use the NOAA CBS Payment Lookup web site to obtain more detailed information about NOAA's payment to you.

When we provide this information, we must follow the rules established by the ASC X12 Electronic Data Interchange Standards. Our addendum information will always start with RMR*IV*. An explanation of the codes are as follows:

RMR indicates that we are using the Remittance Advice Accounts Receivable segment.

IV indicates that we are using the invoice number as the reference number qualifier.

REF indicates that we are using the Reference Number Segment.

RB indicates that we are using rate code as the reference number qualifier.
